Gianni Versace

The famous designer, Gianni Versace, lived for several years in Villa Fontanelle, a villa near Moltrasio on Lake Como. When it was bought, in 1977, by the stylist it was in a state of abandonment.

He created a temple full of oil paintings and artworks where he hosted many celebrities such as Elton John, Sting, Princess Diana and Madonna.

Since his death, only the American singer Jennifer Lopez and her husband have visited Villa Fontanelle and spent their honeymoon there.

After a rest on Lake Como, the actor was fascinated by the place and buy a house in Laglio, a villa of eighteen century called Villa Oleandra, later becoming an honorary citizen of a small lakeside town, and also adhering the committee for the defense of the integrity of the lake. Pizzo Cantù is a bobbin lace, is handmade and traditional product. The lace, called ul pizz in dialect, is produced by weaving wires, usually cotton, linen or silk, which are wound on bobbins, called i oss. The history of silk starts from afar. Batell

The Batell, called also Lucia, is a historic small boat that can be used both with oars and sail. Endevored by the fishermen of Lake Como for the transport of the fish, but also to passengers. The name Lucia is taken from the protagonist of Manzoni’s “I promessi sposi”, where it is used as a means of escape.
